WASHINGTON - Sophomore Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) closed out a grueling men's tennis match for Georgetown by winning 6-3, 7-5 at fourth singles and securing a 4-3 come from behind win over conference foe St. John's. The last victory the Hoyas had over the Johnnies came on March 15, 2008, also a 4-3 win.

With the win Georgetown (9-8, 3-0) upped its winning streak to seven matches. The Hoyas are undefeated at home this season and have not lost a conference tilt yet.

The Hoyas found themselves down early after falling in two of three doubles contests. Only the third doubles tandem of Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and Korber were victorious, 8-2.

With St. John's holding a one point cushion the Johnnies stretched their lead by winning first singles. GU senior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) quickly won his match at two singles, 6-2, 6-1 and junior Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) evened the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at five.

With three matches left to play and each team needing two points for the team win, Tropiano closed out his match on court six, 6-2, 6-3. With the team win in balance Korber battled tough in a tight second set and secured the Hoya win.

GU stays at home this weekend, playing Fairfield on Saturday, April 6, at noon and then facing GWU on Sunday, April 7 at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
