Georgetown Swimming & Diving Sweep American on Friday Afternoon

WASHINGTON - WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team defeated American University on Friday afternoon, as the men earned a 133-102 victory, while the women defeated the Eagles, 149-92 at Reeves Pool on campus at AU.

The Hoyas, in its first of two meets against D.C. competition this weekend, started strong winning both the women's 200 yard medley relay and the men's 200 yard medley relay to open the meet. Emma Cammann, Allison Fulenwider, Molly Gaynor and Erin Timochenko finished in 1:52.91 for the women. Michael Young, Christian Kilgore, Martin Vanin and Matthew Mandel finished in 1:36.48 for the men.

Evan Grey won the 1000 yard freestyle in 9:47.55, with Cal Rohde finishing third for GU.

On the women's side Nicole Tronolone won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:58.13, just in front of teammate Erica Fabbri, who finished in 1:58.89. Fabbri would later win the 100 yard freestyle in 54.11 seconds. Casey Bandman won the 200 yard individual medley in 2:12.60, with Gaynor finishing third for GU.

The Hoyas also won the women's and men's 50 yard freestyle, with Timochenko taking the top spot in 24.91 seconds. Mandel won for the men in 22.18 seconds.

In the diving portion of the meet, that took place at GU's McCarthy Pool, Lauren Kahan won the one-meter dive, scoring 249.97. Cassandra Schwartz finished second with 241.65 points. On the men's side Jared Cooper-Vespa scored a 287.92 to win. He also won the three-meter dive, with 280.28 points.

Georgetown also claimed victory in the women's and men's 200 yard butterfly. On the women's side, GU took the top four spots, with Jillian Carter winning in 2:12.64. Jessica Gaudiosi finished second in 2:15.52, while Emily Hall and Lauren Ward rounded out the top four. For the men, Vanin won in 1:57.60, with Steven Zheng finishing second in 1:59.33.

GU finished the meet the way it began, winning both the women's and men's 200 yard freestyle relay. Cammann, Bader, Gaynor and Fabbri won their race with a time of 1:40.49. Michael Smigelski, David Chung, William Leach and Mandel won in 1:26.47.

Georgetown returns to action on Saturday when they travel down the road to the Charles E. Smith Center Pool for a meet that begins at 1 p.m.
