WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming and diving squad split with crosstown rival George Washington on Saturday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool, as the men claimed a 136-125 victory, while the women fell, 160-94.50.
It was the second win in two days for the men, after defeating American on Friday afternoon. The Hoyas started quickly, winning the men's 200 yard medley relay in 1:37.25, with the quartet of Michael Ng, Michael Smigelski, David Chung and William Leach.
Austin Evenson dominated the distance races for the Hoyas, winning the 1000 yard freestyle, the meet's fourth event, in 9:45.30. Later in the day, Evenson swam to victory in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:49.24.
Ng won the 100 yard backstroke in 52.17 seconds, while Chung earned victory in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.00 seconds
On the women's side, Erica Fabbri turned in a strong performance, winning the 50 yard freestyle in 24.67 seconds. In the next women's event, Fabbri won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.28 seconds.
The Hoyas 400 yard freestyle relay of Erin Timochenko, Delaney Bader, Molly Gaynor and Fabbri finished in a winning time of 3:38.20, before the Hoyas' men would take second and third place in the 400 yard freestyle relay to close the meet.
Georgetown returns to action on Saturday, January 25 when they host Drexel at McCarthy Pool for the Hoyas final home meet of the 2013-14 season. The meet will be Senior Day, as GU will honor the accomplishments of its senior class.
