TOWSON, Md. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team competed in its second dual meet of the season with Towson and William & Mary at Burdick Pool on the campus of Towson University on Saturday afternoon.
The Hoyas women fell to Towson 231-69, while the men fell 221-75 to the host Tigers in a challenging meet that also included the Tribe of William & Mary.
In the diving competition, sophomore Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) continued his strong season breaking the 300-point mark in the one-meter diving competition with a 300.90 to claim first place. Freshman teammate Benjamin Goodfriend (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) finished second with 266.48 points. Later in the meet, Cooper-Vespa came back in the three-meter dive and broke his own program-record with a 301.73. Goodfriend finished second with 249.23.
Georgetown continued to get strong results out of its freshmen women. Freshman Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) got the Hoyas on the board in the fifth event, finishing second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.01. Page later earned a fifth place finish in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 52.99.
In the 200 yard butterfly freshman Shana McLaughlin (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) earned a fourth place finish in 2:08.19, while senior Jillian Carter (Norwalk, Conn./Convent of the Sacred Heart) finished seventh in 2:14.22. Freshman Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) finished fourth overall in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.84.
In the 50 yard freestyle sophomore Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) finished fifth in 24.64, less than a second out of the top spot. She also earned a fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly in 58.26, while McLaughlin, Molly Gaynor and Carter also cracked the top eight.
The relay team of Fabbri, Kirsten Peterson, McLaughlin and Page finished third in the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:37.20.
On the men's side sophomore William Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) placed fifth in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.95.
Freshman Samuel Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) earned a fifth place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.64 for the men.
The Hoyas return to action next Friday, October 17 when they travel to Princeton to take on the Tigers. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
