Comolli Recognized at 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year Dinner

Oct. 20, 2014 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University tennis and basketball student-athlete Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) was recognized as one of the Top 30 finalists for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award at the 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year Awards Dinner on Sunday in Indianapolis, Ind. Comolli was a two-sport athlete on the Hilltop after transferring in following her freshman year.

"What a blessing," said Comolli. "I can't put into words how grateful I am that God placed me at Georgetown and surrounded me with a community that helps guide and motivate it's student athletes even to have the opportunity to be a part of such a great event like this weekend. And to be able to share it with many of the people who made it happen made the moment that much more special."

All Top 30 honorees attended the dinner where the winner, Elizabeth Tucker from the University of Notre Dame, was selected from the nine finalists announced in September. Each member of the Top 30 was recognized for their accomplishments.

Comolli was selected to the Top 30 from a pool of 446 nominees and made up of 10 women from each division. The Top 30 honorees reflect the pillars of the Woman of the Year award: outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

On the tennis court, Comolli was a captain her senior season going 13-15 in singles play with a mark of 8-7 at No. 2. Comolli played doubles with Madeline Jaeger at No. 2 and the duo was 8-12 for the year.

As a junior, she was 12-16 overall playing a majority of the year at No. 2 with a record of 6-11. In doubles play, she was 8-2 overall with Jaeger at No. 2 and 18-10 in all doubles matches with four different partners.

In her first season on the Hilltop, Comolli went 14-6 overall with a record of 10-4 at No. 3 singles. She played No. 1 doubles most of the season with Lauren Greco going 10-10.

Comolli also joined the basketball team during the 2013-14 season appearing in one game for the Blue & Gray.

Away from the athletic arena, Comolli was a two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a psychology major.

The last time Georgetown had a student-athlete attend the Woman of the Year dinner was in 2011 when former track & field and cross country standout Renee Tomlin made the Top 30.

To be eligible for the award, a female student-athlete must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2014 spring season, graduated no later than the end of the summer 2014 term and achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.

"This weekend gave us the chance to form friendships I know will continue far into the future and for that I am extremely thankful," said Comolli. "This weekend has inspired and motivated me to serve, strive and work even harder as I move into the next season of life."
