Oct. 20, 2014 Final Stats WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis squad completed fall play over the weekend at the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Blacksburg, Va., hosted by Virginia Tech. The Hoyas had four individuals and two doubles pairs entered in the event.
In singles play, Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nevada/Odyssey Charter School) was the highest seeded GU player at No. 39. She fell to Alexandra Stanova of Maryland, 6-2, 6-2, in the main draw of 64.
Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood), Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) and Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) were one, eight and 13th in the qualifying singles round of 32, respectively.
de Chatellus fell to Dylan Owens of James Madison, 6-2, 7-5, while Barnard dropped her match against Molly Wickman of Pitt, 6-2, 6-1. Panarese was unable to defeat Emily Groeneveld of Liberty, falling 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Saperstein paired with Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) to defeat Brittany Boys and Katya Salas of Richmond, 8-4, before dropping their matchup against Maci Epstein and Stephanie Nauta of Virginia with an 8-7 (3) final in the round of 16. The second half of the doubles bracket featured de Chatellus and Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) who were unable to surpass Callie Frey and Amanda Wickman of Pitt, 8-4, in the round of 32.
The Blue & Gray will return to action on Jan. 23 when the team travels to Richmond, Va., for the 4-1 Invitational.
