WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad started strong and kept it going in a 71-44 victory over the Loyola University (Md.) Greyhounds (0-3) Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas never trailed to improve to 2-1 overall.

"We were ready, we were fired up and we were hungry to win," said Georgetown Head Coach Natasha Adair. "That's the fun thing about this group, they're hungry about competing, and they're hungry about getting better, but they want to do it together. We talked about effort, but we have to make sure we sustain that effort."

Freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) posted her third-consecutive double-double in as many career games to lead the Blue & Gray with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) added 11 points and six boards, while junior forward Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) rounded out those in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Greyhounds, 57-40, and shot 42.4 percent in the game, while limiting Loyola to just 21.3 percent shooting from the field.

Georgetown was sharp as the game began building momentum early on. Pressure defense forced Greyhound turnovers and, on offense, the Blue & Gray managed to score in transition.

The Hoyas opened the contest with a 17-0 run not allowing a Loyola field goal until the 11:21 mark in the game. It was a balanced attack with five different players scoring including six points from Adomako and five from junior guard Brittany Horne (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel).

Despite the Greyhounds getting on the board, the Hoyas kept going with a majority of the scoring coming down low off of offensive rebounds or high-lows. A pair of Adomako free throws pushed the lead back to 17 with five minutes left in the half, 28-11.

Georgetown continued to hold the comfortable lead through the first half going into the break with a 13-point lead, 35-22.

The teams traded buckets to begin the second half, but GU quickly took over as Vitalis layups and a basket and steal from junior guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) began a 10-3 run. The Greyhounds were forced to call timeout less than three minutes into the half as the Blue & Gray built the lead to 20, 45-25.

As the second half continued, Georgetown built the lead to as much as 27. Despite the advantage, the Hoyas continued to show intensity on defense which proved to be too much for the Greyhounds who couldn't recover from the early deficit.

All 11 available players saw action as freshman guard Chenya Sealey (Bartow, Fla./Bartow) finished out the game swishing a 3-pointer and making the final 71-44.

Loyola was the first of four games in five days for the Hoyas. Georgetown will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the first three games in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge this weekend. GU will face Temple University on Friday, the University of Alabama on Saturday and the host-University of Kansas on Sunday. Live stats will be available for all games and Sunday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
