Volleyball Continues Road Trip at Butler, Xavier

WASHINGTON - The road trip continues for the Georgetown volleyball team as the Hoyas travel to Butler and Xavier for matchups this weekend. GU will play the Bulldogs in Indianapolis on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Musketeers in Cincinnati on Saturday at 4 p.m. The matches are the second and third of a five-match road trip for the Blue & Gray.



The Hoyas (9-16, 3-9 BIG EAST) fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-16) at conference-leading Creighton on Saturday night. Terese Cannon (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) led the Georgetown offense with a match-high 11 kills while Emily Gisolfi (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), in her first start as the team's libero, led all players with 15 digs.



For the season, Georgetown is led offensively byCannon, who is averaging 3.15 kills per set, ranking ninth in the BIG EAST.Dani White (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) averages 2.40 kills per set and leads GU with 1.00 blocks per set. Alex Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Plant) has 24 service aces, an average of 0.27 per set, to lead the Hoyas and rank fifth in the conference. Since taking over the setting responsibilities seven matches ago, Casey Speer (Durham, N.C./Riverside) is averaging 10.46 assists per set.



Butler comes into Friday's matchup with a 17-8 overall record and a 9-4 mark in conference play. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs visited the Hilltop and defeated GU 3-1 (24-26, 28-26, 25-19, 25-22). Belle Obert leads the Butler offense with an average of 3.85 kills per set and Stephanie Kranda is putting down 2.74. Makayla Ferguson is second in the BIG EAST with 10.73 assists per set while Kayla Bivins is third in the conference with 1.39 blocks per set.



Xavier enters the weekend at 15-10 overall and 8-5 in the BIG EAST. The Musketeers, who will play Creighton on Friday, defeated the Hoyas 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16) earlier this season at McDonough Arena. Abbey Bessler leads Xavier with a 3.53 kills per set average while also averaging 2.82 digs, .41 blocks and .26 aces per set. Jesse Earl leads the Musketeer defense with 4.48 digs per set, which ranks third in the BIG EAST, and Aubree Smith is averaging 9.39 assists per set.



Following this weekend, the Blue & Gray will conclude their road trip with matches at St. John's and Providence next weekend.
