Swimming & Diving Split Results at BIG EAST Quad Meet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its first conference competition at the BIG EAST Quad Meet at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University with Seton Hall, Villanova and the host Scarlet Knights.

On the men's side, GU defeated Villanova 209.00 - 132.00, but fell to Seton Hall 222.00 - 131.00. On the women's side, the Hoyas defeated the Pirates 226.00 - 127.00, but were outscored by Villanova (233.00 - 114.00), and Big Ten opponent Rutgers (257.50 - 95.50).

Saturday morning began with the women's 200 medley relay, as the Hoyas earned a fourth-place finish with the team of Ryan Murphy (Henderson, Va./Henderson), Haley Owens (Placerville, Calif./El Dorado), Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) finishing in 1:49.66. The men placed two 200 medley relay squads in the top four, as the quartet of Michael Young (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax), Samuel Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow), Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) and William Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished third in 1:36.87.

Georgetown's men placed two in the top three of the 400 individual medley, the first individual event of the second day. Freshman Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) finished second with a time of 4:10.55, while DeLise finished third in 4:14.73.

Page was the Hoyas' top finisher in the women's 100 freestyle, earning fifth place with a time of 52.86, while Fabbri finished eighth in 53.23. Leach placed second in the men's 100 freestyle in 47.70, while junior Cal Rohde (Greenwich, Conn./The Peddie School) and sophomore David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) took sixth and seventh, respectively.

Sophomore Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) finished fifth overall in the women's 200 backstroke in 2:07.76, while sophomore Emma Cammann (Andover, Mass./Andover) finished seventh. Freshman Chandler Hinson (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) was GU's best finisher in the 200 backstroke, finishing fourth overall in 1:57.67. Sophomore Evan Grey (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) and junior Kurt Muehlheuser (Mars, Pa.) finished just behind Hinson in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Fabbri earned a third-place finish for the Hoyas in the 100 butterfly in 57.68. Vanin earned GU's first individual victory of the meet, finishing the 200 butterfly with a time of 51.82. Chung finished second overall in 52.12.

Freshman Christine Ryan's (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) 500 freestyle time of 5:05.46 was good for a fifth-place finish. On the men's side Ross earned another second-place finish, touching the wall at 4:45.18. Freshman Chase Ladman (San Marcos, Calif.) finished fourth overall.

Owens earned a fourth-place finish for the Hoyas in the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.63 and freshman Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) finished sixth overall. DeLise finished third for the men with a time of 2:12.25, while freshman Matt Glockenmeier (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) finished fourth.

The women's 400 freestyle relay team of Page, Kirstin Peterson (Hunterdon County, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional), Ryan and Fabbri earned a second-place finish in 3:30.32, less than two seconds behind Villanova. The men closed the quad meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay with Leach, Ross, Chung and Rohde finishing in 3:09.96.

In the women's one meter diving competition senior Lauren Kahan (Westport, Conn.) and Sara Jaklitsch (Hingham, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. For the men, sophomore Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) continued a strong fall with a second place finish, scoring 267.65 points.

The Hoyas return to action on Friday, November 21 when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for the three-day Bucknell Invitational.
