Men's Tennis Hosts Team Banquet, Announces Awards

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's tennis team recently named its 2013-14 team award winners at the squad's annual banquet. The awards were presented by Head Coach Gordie Ernst.

Junior Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the year. Tropiano went 11-6 for the Hoyas in dual singles play from the No. 2 through 6 positions. He also went 1-1 from the No. 3 spot in the squad's BIG EAST matchups. The junior won three matches on Georgetown's west coast trip this spring and finished up the season with two wins from the No. 3 position. Tropiano earned a 15-12 overall doubles mark, including a 9-9 dual record.

The 2014 Coaches Award went to senior captain Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North). In his final season for the Hoyas, Distaso went 10-8 in the spring with a 4-3 mark from the No. 3 position and 5-5 record from the No. 5 spot.

Last season, Tropiano won the team's Coaches Award while Distaso earned the Most Valuable Player selection.

The Georgetown men's tennis team finished the 2013-14 season with a 8-13 dual record and 1-2 mark in BIG EAST play.
