Game Notes

WASHINGTON - The nationally-ranked Georgetown University men's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday night, Jan. 27, hosting BIG EAST Conference rival Xavier at Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The Georgetown-Xavier game will be shown live on FOX Sports 1, with Joe Davis handling the play-by-play and Bill Raftery serving as the color analyst. The radio call of Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.

The Hoyas re-entered the national rankings this week, appearing at No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 22 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' poll.

Georgetown is coming off a 95-85 overtime win at Marquette on Saturday. The Blue & Gray have won four-straight games, improving to 14-5 overall and stand alone in first place in the BIG EAST Conference with a 6-2 mark. GU is rated No. 13 nationally in the latest RPI Ratings and has a strength of schedule tabbed third nationally.

On Saturday at Marquette, freshman guard Tre Campbell (Washington, D.C./St. John's College HS) hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds left in overtime and Georgetown hit all six free throw attempts in the final 39 seconds as the Hoyas beat Marquette.

Junior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) scored 19 points and had five assists to lead six players in double figures for the Hoyas. Senior center Joshua Smith (Kent, Wash./Kentwood/UCLA) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while freshman forward Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.C./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) matched his career high with 17 points. Campbell finished with 14 points and four rebounds, while senior forward Mikael Hopkins (Hyattsville, Md./DeMatha) had 13 points and five rebounds, hitting 11-of-12 free throws, and senior guard Aaron Bowen (Jacksonville, Fla./QEA [N.C.]) added 11 points and two assists.

It was the first time six Hoyas were in double figures in the same game since Nov. 28, 2009, a win over Lafayette. It was also the first time since a game against Marymount on Nov. 16, 2001 that three bench players scored in double figures.

Copeland was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, as he averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 63.2 percent from the floor (12-of-19) and 81.8 percent from the free throw line (9-of-11) during the week. Xavier leads the head-to-head series, 6-3, and Georgetown is 2-1 at home against XU. The Hoyas won last year's meeting at Verizon Center, 74-52.

Xavier enters Wednesday's game with a 13-7 overall record and a 4-4- mark in the BIG EAST.
