January 29, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (4-17, 2-7 BIG EAST) will travel to a pair of BIG EAST Conference foes this weekend. The Hoyas face the DePaul University Blue Demons (15-6, 7-2 BIG EAST) in Chicago, Ill., on Friday at 8 p.m. ET On Sunday, GU will travel to Marquette University to take on the Golden Eagles (4-16, 0-9 BIG EAST) in a 3 p.m. ET, matchup. Friday will be broadcast regionally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and Sunday will be available online on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
On Monday, freshman guard
Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the fourth-consecutive week after a pair of tough games for the Hoyas.
Adomako earns her fifth weekly honor after leading Georgetown with averages of 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of home battles against two of the top teams in the league.
Against St. John's on Friday the rookie totaled 15 points and six rebounds before exploding for a career-high 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists in an overtime tilt against league-leader and nationally-ranked Seton Hall.
Through nine league games, Adomako ranks seventh among all league players in both points (17.1) and rebounds (7.2).
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 13.6 ppg and has posted a squad-high 7.3 rpg. Junior forward Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) is second with 9.2 ppg as well as 6.6 rpg and junior guard Brittany Horne (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) rounds out the top three with 8.6 ppg.
Georgetown holds a +2.8 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 36.6 percent on the season.
After averaging 24.5 points and leading DePaul to a 2-0 week, senior guard Brittany Hrynko was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week. Hrynko led DePaul in scoring in its wins over Creighton (96-71) and Providence (90-42). The Philadelphia native scored 27 against the Bluejays and added 22 versus the Friars. Her back-to-back 20-point performances mark Hrynko's sixth and seventh 20-plus point outings of the season.
The Hoyas are 2-12 all-time against the Blue Demons with a record of 1-7 away from McDonough Arena. Earlier this season, GU couldn't stop No. 25/24 DePaul falling 105-85.
The Hoyas had five players in double figures with Adomako leading the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth-career double-double. Sophomore guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) posted her first-career double-double scoring 21 points and pulling down a team-high 11 boards. Vitalis managed 11 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and junior guard Katie McCormick (Leonardtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) scored 10 points each.
Georgetown outrebounded DePaul, 54-38, and shot 45.5 percent from the field. The Blue Demons shot 44.7 percent and 34.2 percent from beyond the arc. The difference was in possession as GU had 26 turnovers and DePaul committed only nine.
Marquette dropped to 4-16 on the season and 0-9 in BIG EAST play with a 93-75 loss to the Creighton Bluejays Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center. On Friday, the squad fell to Providence, 66-58. Senior guard Arlesia Morse is averaging 14.3 ppg and freshman guard Kenisha Bell is averaging 14.1 ppg to lead the squad.
The Hoyas are 2-9 all-time against the Golden Eagles with a mark of 1-3 on the road. In the last meeting earlier this month, GU got back on the winning track with an 83-76 victory.
Georgetown had four players in double figures with Adomako leading the way with a then-career-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. Horne had 18 points including three 3-pointers, McCormick added 17 points with four from downtown and Vitalis rounded it out with 12.
The Hoyas outrebounded the Golden Eagles, 55-43, and shot 35.5 percent including a 50 percent performance from beyond the arc. It marked Adomako's fifth double-double of the season.
