Oct. 13, 2015 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown men's tennis team competed in the Farnsworth Invitational this past weekend in Princeton, N.J. The tournament featured a very competitive 15-team field.
The Hoyas were led by Will Sharton (Wayland, Mass./Wayland High School) as the freshman went 2-1 in singles play. Reaching the semifinals of the Cordish Main Draw, Sharton defeated NJIT's Arnold Hall, 6-4, 6-3, and Wisconsin's Elliot Sprecher, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-5, but fell to Boston College's Aidan McNulty in a close match, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Fellow classmate, Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel High School) reached the semifinals of the Tiger Consolation where he downed Temple's Artem Kapshuk, 6-4, 6-4 and Princeton's Jonathan Carcione, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
In doubles play, Chen partnered with Yannik Mahlangu (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley High School). Advancing to the quarterfinals of the Orange Draw, the duo trumped Bucknell, 8-1, but fell to conference-rival St. John, 8-3.
Jack Murphy (Coronado, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) and Sharton advanced to the quarterfinals of the Doubles Black Draw but fell to NJIT, 8-6.
Georgetown will close out the fall season at the ITA Regional in Charlottesville, Va., Oct. 15-18.
