Crystal Thomas Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior women's soccer player Crystal Thomas (Elgin, Ill./Wheaton Academy/Notre Dame) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Hoyas closed out the regular season on Friday with a 3-1 win over Creighton, clinching the No. 2 seed in this week's BIG EAST Tournament, in Omaha, Neb. GU will play the winner of a match between No. 3 seed DePaul and No. 6 Providence on Friday, Nov. 7.

Georgetown, unbeaten in its last five games (3-0-2) and with a 7-1-2 record in its last 10 games, improved to 11-5-2 overall, including a 6-1-2 mark in the BIG EAST, with the win over Creighton.

Thomas, a forward, had a hand in each of the team's goals. She assisted senior Melissa Downey (McLean, Va./McLean/Princeton) on the team's first goal, in the 21st minute. Thomas then took an assist from Downey, scoring Georgetown's second goal. In the second half, Thomas assisted sophomore Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) on GU's third goal.

Thomas is second on the team in scoring with 18 points, scoring six goals and adding six assists. She is tied for third on the team in goals scored and is second in assists.
