Nov. 21, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to the University of Memphis (2-1) on Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m., matchup at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The Hoyas are currently 2-0 on the season, and the Memphis game marks the beginning of a five-game road swing for the Blue & Gray.
On Wednesday, the Hoyas defeated Virginia Tech, 73-56, in the squad's home opener at McDonough Arena. Sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) led the way with 19 points, while freshman point guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) added 16 points and a squad-best nine rebounds. Junior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) rounded out those in double figures with 10 points in the contest.
Adomako was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after an outstanding start to the season. The guard led the way for the Hoyas against UMES with 23 points and seven rebounds as well as an assist and a steal. She was also an impressive 8-of-12 from the free throw line. These were the conference's first weekly awards of the 2015-16 season.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 21.0 ppg and has posted 6.5 rpg. Woodard is second with 10.5 ppg as well as 3.5 rpg, and White rounds out the top three with 9.5 ppg as well as a team-high 7.5 rpg.
Georgetown holds a +4.0 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 39.8 percent on the season.
The Hoyas are currently 1-0 on the road.
Memphis' Ariel Hearn and Brianna Wright led the Tigers with 15 points each, but it wasn't enough as Memphis dropped its first game of 2015-16 with a 72-63 road loss at Kansas on Thursday. Asianna Fuqua-Bey added 12 points. Wright also had a career-high six steals, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Hearn dished out four assists and moved into the top-10 on the Memphis career assists list. She is in the No. 10 spot with 328 career assists.
Georgetown is 0-1 all-time against the Tigers, falling, 63-46, in the lone meeting a season ago at McDonough Arena. Woodard led the way with nine points and eight rebounds, while Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) added eight, going 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Jade Martin (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and added six points.
Georgetown outrebounded Memphis, 44-41, but shot 32.3 percent (21-of-65) from the field and allowed the Tigers 42.4 percent (25-of-59) shooting.
