Swimming & Diving Complete First Day at Rutgers Quad Meet

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team wrapped up the first day of the two-day Rutgers Quad Meet, along with the host Scarlet Knights and BIG EAST competitors Seton Hall and Villanova at the Werblin Recreation Center.

After the first day the Georgetown women lead Seton Hall, 105-80, while trailing Villanova, 139-44, and Rutgers, 135-51. The men lead Villanova, 124-45, and trail Seton Hall, 111-58.

The Hoya men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope), senior Michael Smigelski (Southington, Conn./Southinton), sophomore Dan Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) an junior William Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) finished second, one second behind Seton Hall's winning quartet, in 1:26.49.

Leach and Maslowski took second and third, respectively in the men's 50-yard freestyle, as Leach finished in 21.93, less than a tenth of a second behind the winner from Seton Hall.

Sophomore Sam Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) had a strong first day, earning a third-place in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:56.77. He would also take second-place in the men's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:57.94.

Freshman Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) scored points for GU, finishing second in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.60. Senior Austin Evenson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Pine Crest School) finished second in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 9:47.11.

On the women's side senior Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) finished third in 24.02 in the 50-yard freestyle.

Freshman Carrie Bonfield (Skillman, N.J./The Penninton School) also earned a third-place finish in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle, with a time of 10:26.16.

In diving competition, freshman Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) won the men's 1-meter dive with a score of 264.45.
