Dec. 1, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to George Mason University (3-5) on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m., matchup at EagleBank Arena. The Hoyas are currently 4-1 on the season, and won the 2015 TD Bank Classic last weekend in Burlington, Vt.
On Monday, freshman guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second-consecutive week. Additionally, sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
White claimed the top newcomer honor for the second-straight week after leading Georgetown to the TD Bank Classic crown, and earning a spot on the all-tournament team. White averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 5.0 assists against a pair of teams coming off 2015 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Against Quinnipiac on Friday, White made 9-of-12 attempts from the field en route to 19 points, while grabbing six rebounds, dishing six assists and snagging three steals. In Saturday's title match against St. Francis (Brooklyn), the rookie guard scored 15 points off 7-of-12 shooting while tallying six steals and four helpers.
Adomako was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists and a .517 shooting percentage in the two wins. Against Quinnipiac, she had 19 points, six boards, two steals, two blocks and an assist. In the championship game, Adomako managed 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Also earning honors in Vermont was junior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom), who was named the TD Bank Classic MVP averaging 12.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and shooting an impressive 70.6 percent (12-for-17) from the field.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 16.0 ppg and has posted 5.0 rpg. Woodard is second with 13.2 ppg as well as 4.6 rpg, and White rounds out the top three with 12.0 ppg as well as a team-high 6.2 rpg, 3.8 apg and 4.4 spg.
Georgetown holds a +6.6 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 43.7 percent on the season. The Blue & Gray also holds a +3.4 turnover margin. The Hoyas are currently 3-1 away from the friendly confines of McDonough Arena.
In the first five games of the season, the Blue & Gray has already tied its win total from a season ago and surpassed its road wins from 2014-15. The team is in the midst of a five-game road swing.
For the Patriots, senior guard Taylor Brown capped a season-high 21-point performance with a game-winning basket to give George Mason a 64-63 win against Tulsa and the third place in The Lady Rebel Round-Up this past weekend. Brown is leading the team in scoring averaging 14.3 ppg, and Kristi Mokube is second with 10.0 ppg.
The Patriots have wins over Tulsa, Pepperdine and Towson so far this season.
Georgetown is 16-9 all-time against George Mason and 7-5 on the road. The last meeting was a 70-62 Hoya loss during the 2004-05 season at McDonough Arena. The last meeting in Fairfax, was a 72-63 GU victory in 2003.
