Men's Lacrosse Announces 2016 Schedule

Dec. 1, 2015

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Kevin Warne has announced the team's 2016 schedule, set to begin on Saturday, February 20 against Notre Dame in Kennesaw, Ga. Overall, the Hoyas will match up with five teams that played in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, highlighted by a pair of Final Four participants.

Warne, the 2015 BIG EAST Coach of the Year, helped the program to a six-win improvement and a trip to the BIG EAST Championship game, against eventual National Champion Denver, last season. GU will host the Pioneers at Cooper Field on Saturday, April 2 at noon.

Georgetown begins its season on the road with a pair of NCAA Tournament qualifiers from a season ago. Following their neutral site game with the Fighting Irish, the Hoyas will look to avenge an early 2015 loss when they travel to Towson (February 27, noon) to take on the defending CAA Champions. GU will also travel to Hofstra (March 5, noon), before rounding out its non-conference road schedule with perennial ACC power Duke (March 19, 1 p.m.).

GU's non-conference home schedule includes visits from Mount St. Mary's (March 1, 3 p.m.), before Fairfield (March 8, 3 p.m.) and Hobart (March 12, noon) visit during spring break. The Hoyas will look to put together consecutive wins against local rival Loyola (March 23, 3 p.m) in an important non-conference matchup. GU's last non-conference home game will come on April 23, when they host ACC-opponent Virginia under the lights at Cooper Field.

The Hoyas open BIG EAST Conference play when they travel to Milwaukee, Wis., for the second time in program history, to take on Marquette (March 26, 2 p.m.). GU defeated the Golden Eagles twice in 2015, including a win in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals. The following week, GU will look for its first win against Denver. They also host Providence (April 9, 3 p.m.) in their final league home game.

The team's last two league games come on the road when they travel to Villanova (April 16, 4 p.m.), before concluding the regular season at St. John's (April 30, 1 p.m.).

The 2016 BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championships begin the following week on Thursday, May 5 in Denver, Colorado. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 7.
