WASHINGTON - Georgetown fell behind at the half and rallied late in the second half, but could not make up lost ground as the Hoyas lost to Monmouth, 83-68, at Verizon Center Tuesday night.

The loss ends a five-game win streak for the Hoyas, who fall to 6-4 overall, while Monmouth improves to 7-3 overall. It was the team's second loss at Verizon Center this season, the first time the Hoyas have lost two non-league games at their downtown home since 2004-05.

Senior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) scored a team-high 18 points and had five steals to lead the Hoyas, while sophomore forward Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.C./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) finished with 14 points.

Freshman center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) scored 14 points and had four rebounds off the bench for the Hoyas.

Georgetown trailed by 12 points at halftime (39-27) and trimmed the margin to nine points, 41-32, on a 3-pointer from junior forward Reggie Cameron (Hackensack, N.J./Hudson Catholic), but Monmouth outscored GU, 10-3, and pushed its lead back to 16 points, 51-35, with 16:02 to play in the game.

The Hoyas cut the gap to 11 points, 62-51, on free throws from Govan with 6:53 left, but the Hawks countered with seven-straight points and took their biggest lead, 69-51, with 4:45 to play in the game. The Hoyas used a 15-8 run and pulled to within 10 points, 76-66, on a 3-pointer from sophomore guard L.J. Peak (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney) with 2:26 left, but could not get any closer.

Georgetown trailed by 12 points at the break, 39-27, the first time all season the Hoyas were behind. GU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and led 4-2 after a layup from Peak at the 18:00 mark, but that was the team's last lead of the game.

Trailing 14-10 after a free throw from Copeland with 12 minutes to play in the half, Monmouth went on an 11-4 run over a span of 2:15 and took a 25-14 lead on a 3-pointer from Justin Robinson. The Hoyas cut the lead back down to five points, 29-24, after free throws from Smith-Rivera with 3:57 left, but the Hawks outscored GU, 10-3, over the remainder of the half to go into the break with the 12-point lead.

Georgetown closes out a seven-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 19, hosting UNC Asheville at Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for noon. The game will be shown on FSL (FOX Sports Local) and can be heard locally on 106.7 FM The Fan WJFK.
