Dec. 22, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will close out nonconference play hosting the Towson University Tigers (2-7) on Wednesday afternoon in a noon matchup at the McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 6-3 on the season, and return to the Hilltop for just their third home game of the season.
The Hoyas have not played since Saturday, Dec. 12 due to final exams.
In the last outing, a tough third quarter proved to be the difference as the squad fell to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, 78-66, at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Freshman point guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds as well as five assists, while sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) added 14 points. Junior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) managed 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks, and sophomore guard DiDi Burton (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College Prep) posted six assists, six rebounds and three steals.
Georgetown was outrebounded, 48-36, but forced 24 turnovers on 13 steals for 30 points off of turnovers. The Hoyas shot 38.6 percent (27-of-70) from the field, but allowed the Crimson Tide 40.3 percent (25-of-62) shooting from the field as well as 27 points from beyond the arc.
White is leading the team in scoring with 14.9 ppg and has posted a team-best 5.9 rpg, 3.8 apg and 3.2 spg. Adomako is second with 13.6 ppg as well as 5.8 rpg. Woodard rounds out the top three with 11.6 ppg as well as 4.9 rpg.
Georgetown holds a +4.0 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 39.9 percent on the season. The Blue & Gray also holds a +2.6 turnover margin. The Hoyas are currently 2-0 at the friendly confines of McDonough Arena.
Towson forward Jordyn Smith pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds as the Tigers fell to Auburn University, 74-52 on Sunday afternoon at SECU Arena. Towson's two wins of the season came in back-to-back victories over Western Illinois (83-77), and UMBC (61-51). The Tigers currently boast three players in double figures with Raven Bankston leading the way averaging 17.7 ppg.
Georgetown is 4-3 all-time against the Tigers and 2-2 at home. The last meeting was a 67-57 Hoya victory during the 2007-08 season. The year prior, the Blue & Gray fell, 65-57, at McDonough Arena.
GU Head Coach Natasha Adair will see a familiar face on the opposing sideline on Wednesday. Towson Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler was an assistant on the Hilltop for 10 years. Adair and Reid Geckeler were on the same staff for four seasons under former Head Coach Pat Knapp. This is the second-consecutive game for Reid Geckeler against a former colleague after facing former GU Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy at Auburn.
