On Wednesday, the Hoyas used a big second-half comeback to down the George Mason University Patriots, 63-57.
Freshman guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way for the Blue & Gray with 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. She also went 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and junior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) both added 12 points apiece. Adomako pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and had six blocks, while Woodard managed eight boards, three blocks and two steals.
Georgetown shot 36.2 percent (25-of-69) from the field for the game, and held the Patriots to 30.3 percent (20-of-66) shooting. The Hoyas outrebounded George Mason, 48-47, and forced 20 turnovers on nine steals. GU also had 14 blocks in the contest.
On Monday, White was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second-consecutive week. Additionally, Adomako earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
White claimed the top newcomer honor for the second-straight week after leading Georgetown to the TD Bank Classic crown, and earning a spot on the all-tournament team. White averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 5.0 assists against a pair of teams coming off 2015 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Against Quinnipiac on Friday, White made 9-of-12 attempts from the field en route to 19 points, while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out six assists and snagging three steals. In Saturday's title match against St. Francis (Brooklyn), the rookie guard scored 15 points off 7-of-12 shooting while tallying six steals and four helpers.
Adomako was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 2.0 assists and a .517 shooting percentage in the two wins. Against Quinnipiac, she had 19 points, six boards, two steals, two blocks and an assist. In the championship game, Adomako managed 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
Also earning honors in Vermont was Woodard, who was named the TD Bank Classic MVP averaging 12.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg and shooting an impressive 70.6 percent (12-for-17) from the field.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 15.3 ppg and has posted 5.7 rpg. White is second with 13.7 ppg as well as a team-high 6.3 rpg, 3.8 apg and 4.0 spg. Woodard rounds out the top three with 13.0 ppg as well as 5.2 rpg.
Georgetown holds a +5.7 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 42.3 percent on the season. The Blue & Gray also holds a +3.2 turnover margin. The Hoyas are currently 4-1 away from the friendly confines of McDonough Arena.
In the first six games of the season, the Blue & Gray has already beat its win total from a season ago and surpassed its road wins from 2014-15. The team is in the midst of a five-game road swing.
The Bonnies seek to stretch their winning streak to four-straight games, both overall and at the Reilly Center. SBU came away with a thrilling win in double overtime, 73-68, over Stony Brook on Tuesday evening. Senior Katie Healy posted a game-high 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting, adding six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Fellow senior Nyla Rueter had 11 points as did sophomore Miranda Drummond.
Georgetown is 0-1 all-time against St. Bonaventure with the last meeting coming a season ago at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas kept it close, but fell, 70-64, in the non-conference finale. Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Adomako both managed 10 points. Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds and scored seven points.
