Hoyas Host Xavier and Butler This Weekend

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (4-20, 2-10 BIG EAST) will host a pair of BIG EAST Conference foes this weekend at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas will welcome the Xavier University Musketeers (14-10, 6-7 BIG EAST) on Friday at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the Butler University Bulldogs (12-12, 8-5 BIG EAST) come to town for a 4 p.m., matchup. Friday's game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network and is GU's Hail to Kale event. Sunday's game is also Alumni Day.

Last weekend, GU fell, 64-48, to the Villanova University Wildcats Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup at McDonough Arena.

Junior forward Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) led the Hoyas with 14 points and seven rebounds as well as a block and a steal. Freshman guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) added nine points, and both junior guard Brittany Horne (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and sophomore guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) posted eight points, respectively.

Georgetown outrebounded Villanova, 38-32, and had just 11 turnovers, while the Wildcats had five. The Blue & Gray outscored the Wildcats in the second half, 31-26.

Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 13.5 ppg and has posted a squad-high 7.0 rpg. Vitalis is second with 9.4 ppg as well as 6.7 rpg and Horne rounds out the top three with 8.5 ppg.

Georgetown holds a +2.8 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 36.7 percent on the season.

Xavier went 1-1 last week downing Marquette, 91-72, but falling to DePaul, 87-63. Briana Glover was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following her on-court performance last weekend. Glover leads the team in scoring with 11.7 ppg, while adding 4.0 rpg. She also ranks third in the in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (.537) and fifth in free throw percentage (.761).

The Hoyas are 2-3 all-time against the Musketeers and 1-0 at home. In the first meeting this season, the Blue & Gray fell, 63-55, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The lead went back and forth, but the Blue & Gray couldn't find the answer late.

Adomako led Georgetown with 18 points, while Horne added 10 points as the only two players in double figures for the Hoyas.

Butler dropped a pair of contests last weekend. The squad fell to DePaul, 83-65, and then lost to Marquette in double overtime, 77-74. Loryn Goodwin leads the team in scoring averaging 16.1 ppg.

Georgetown is 1-2 all-time against Butler, and 1-0 at home. Earlier this season, GU dropped a 63-58 decision at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The Hoyas put together a late comeback, but couldn't find an answer and secure the victory.

Adomako and Horne paced the Hoyas with 15 points apiece. Adomako was 3-for-3 at the line and Horne was 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Junior guard Logan Battle (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) rounded out those in double figures with 10 points. Freshman center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) pulled down a squad-best seven rebounds.

Friday's game tips off at 8 p.m., at McDonough Arena, tickets will be available at the door and the game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Ryan Sakamoto and alum Monica McNutt calling the action.

It is also GU's Hail to Kale event. Kale will be given out to the first 100 fans to enter the game. Any fan whose name includes the letters K-A-L-E will also be admitted into the game for free. During the contest, all fans in attendance will have a chance to win gift cards to DC's best kale-serving restaurants. A number of kale dining options will also be available at the concessions stand, donated by Georgetown Dining.

Once you've downloaded the app you will be taken to the Fox Sports Go landing page. To access BIG EAST content simply click on "All Channels" and select the BIG EAST tab. To access the Fox Sports Go website on your desktop you have to confirm your cable subscription. Enter your username and password obtained from your cable provider.

Sunday's matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats and a webcast featuring Ryan Sakamoto and Ben Gordon-Goldstein will be available through Georgetown's athletic website. Georgetown will also welcome back its women's basketball alumnae.
