Feb. 16, 2015 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University freshman men's basketball player Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.C./Bridgeton Academy [N.H.]) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday.
In Georgetown's only game last week, Copeland scored a career-high 20 points and tied a career-high with eight rebounds in helping to lead the Blue & Gray to an 86-67 win at Seton Hall.
Georgetown, winners of six of its last nine games, improved to 16-8 overall and 8-5 in the BIG EAST with the win. The Hoyas are rated No. 22 in the country in the latest RPI Ratings and have a strength of schedule tabbed No. 2 in the country.
Copeland is fifth on the team in scoring with 6.5 points per game and is grabbing 3.3 rebounds while connecting on 48.3 percent of his shots from the field.
He has reached double figures in scoring seven times, including five times in the last eight games. In that span, he has averaged 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds while connecting on 52.3 percent of his shots (34-of-65).
This is the second time this season that Copeland has been named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and he is the second Hoya, joined by freshman teammate L.J. Peak (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney) to earn the honor.
Georgetown returns to BIG EAST Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 17, hosting long-time rival St. John's at Verizon Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on FOX Sports 1, with Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery calling all of the action. The game can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
