March 6, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's rowing team will get on the water for the first time this spring when it travels south for its spring training trip. The Hoyas will train at Ft. Hamer Rowing Facility in Parrish, Florida during Georgetown's spring break.
"This trip is extremely important for our team," Head Coach Miranda Paris said. "Typically the Potomac isn't frozen at this time of year, so we are very lucky that we decided to move our training trip to the spring. We have gotten creative training for the past two months indoors by competing on the ergs, running, circuits, lifting weights and doing yoga. It's all about keeping the training intense, fresh and purposeful."
The Hoyas will spend the majority of the trip training against each other, perfecting their fundamentals. This will allow Paris and her coaching staff to put together the best possible combination for each boat.
Georgetown will conclude its trip to the Sunshine State with an exhibition against Nova Southeastern, a perennial national contender in Division II, having won the national championship in 2013.
"Every year our team's results have improved significantly and we expect that if we stay focused on the process, that upward trajectory will continue. This trip gives us valuable time together to train, to improve technically and physiologically, and to come together even more as a unit."
The Blue & Gray will open its spring season on March 21-22 with a scrimmage at Bucknell. The Hoyas have their sights set on the Patriot League Championships, May 14-15, and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, May 29-31 on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, California.
