Women's Tennis Picks Up 10th Win Of The Season

April 11, 2015

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The women's tennis squad picked up its 10th victory of the season on Saturday afternoon when it downed the Villanova Wildcats 6-1. The Hoyas swept the doubles matchups and dominated singles play as well to secure the victory.

The pair of Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North) didn't drop a single set as they defeated Samantha Schafer and Kate Pettee, 8-0, from the No. 1 doubles spot.

Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) and Taylor Perz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) were victorious over Paulina Bajet and Linley Busby, 8-3, playing from the No. 2 slot. Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Nicole Koskovolis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) took their match from Alexandra Krogius and Aphrah Brokaw, 8-2, from No. 3 doubles.

Saperstein was victorious over Victoria Martinez, 6-1, 6-1, from the top spot in singles play. After dropping the No. 2 matchup, the Hoyas won matches three through six.

Panarese defeated Krogius, 6-4, 6-3, while Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) was victorious over Bajet, 6-4, 6-1. Marx took down Pettee, 6-0, 7-5, and Madeline Foley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Rowland Hall St. Marks) swept Busby in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

"It was such a great day not only to get the team win, but to celebrate my captain Sophie Panarese," said Head Coach Gordie Ernst. "Sophie is the quintessential team player and competitor. As great a leader and teammate as she was, she is an even better person and friend. She had the ability to make all those around her shine, and she never looked to receive any glory or praise. Her legacy is ingrained in the Hoya tennis program, and should make a lasting impression on all players for years to come."

Georgetown will return to action on April 14 when they travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on UMBC in the final match of the regular season.
