Women's Rowing Lightweight Competes at Knecht Cup

April 14, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's rowing lightweight squad competed last weekend at the Knecht Cup on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Racing took place on Saturday evening and Sunday, due to high wings. Both of GU's crews advanced to their respective petite finals.

The varsity eight crew had its initial heat pushed from Saturday morning to evening due to high winds. The Hoyas featured a young crew, with six freshmen in the boat, and placed fifth in the heat with a time of 6:53.11, failing to advance to the grand final. In the petite final, GU finished third in a very tight race, crossing the finish line in 7:04.67.

The varsity four heats were pushed back to Sunday morning. Racing in the more competitive of the heats, the Hoyas needed to secure a first or second place finish in order to advance to the grand final. Despite a strong race, the Blue & Gray were edged out of a top-two finish by less than a second. In the petite final, GU shaved 13.2 seconds off of their morning time, defeating the rest of the field by 9.56 seconds and posting the third fastest time of the both the grand and petite finals.

Georgetown will return to the Potomac River on Saturday, April 25 for the Class of 2006 Cup versus Princeton.
