OKATIE, S.C. - The Georgetown University men's golf team finished fifth overall after the final round concluded on a chilly, overcast day at the 2015 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships presented by New York Life at the Callawassie Island Golf Club. The Hoyas turned in a team score of 18-over par on the final day to finish at 51-over par 915 over the 54-hole tournament.
The Hoyas finished 18 strokes behind BIG EAST Champion Marquette, who earned the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Men's Golf Championships. DePaul (+35), Xavier (+42) and Seton Hall (+46) rounded out the top four.
"It was a bittersweet finish," Head Coach Tommy Hunter said. "We didn't play our best golf on the final day, but it was a great experience for our guys to play with the leaders going into round two. This is experience is something we can build on going into next season."
Freshman Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons (Fla.)) shot a six-over par 78 on the final day to finish his first BIG EAST Championship in ninth place with an eight-over par 224. Madsen finished nine strokes behind the 2015 BIG EAST Champion, Dylan Crowley of St. John's, who defeated Patrick Sanchez of Marquette in a three-hole playoff.
Senior Greg Podufal (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) turned in his best round of the tournament, firing a two-over par 74 to finish tied for 18th overall with a final score of 13-over par 229. Podufal, an All-BIG EAST selection last season after finishing second overall in the championship, returned from an injury during the fall to finish his collegiate career with a strong round on Tuesday.
Freshman Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) shot a four-over par 76 in the third round to finish tied for 22nd place with a 15-over par 231. Freshman Jack Musgrave (Chesterton, Ind./Andrean) also tied for 22nd after shooting a six-over par 78 during the final round.
