April 7, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown women's rowing lightweight team raced on the Potomac River last Saturday in the Class of 2004 Cup against Harvard-Radcliffe. Due to poor conditions, only one race was run, featuring the varsity eight crews.
Racing against a challenging 20+ MPH tailwind, causing whitecaps throughout the course, the Hoyas battled to a third-place finish with a time of 7:03.6, finishing 10 seconds behind Harvard-Radcliffe's first varsity boat and five seconds behind its second varsity.
GU Varsity Eight Lineup: Coxswain Margaret Rush (Fort Washington, Pa./Mount St. Joseph), stroke Allie Garceau (Atkinson, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), Joanna Moley (Darien, Conn./Greens Farm Academy), Sarah Arcos (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Polytech), Grace Benson (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd), Natalia Keohane (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius), Ruth Speidel (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), Caroline Thomas (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) and Emily Marshall (Toronto, Ontario/Branksome Hall).
"I was really pleased with the aggression I saw from our team," Head Coach Miranda Paris said. "We didn't execute our race plan the way we needed to and this significantly impacted the result, but we're looking forward to racing again next weekend and improving in this area. This is a strong, young crew with a lot of potential. How hard they work now will determine how much faster we get between now and the IRA."
Georgetown returns to the water this Friday and Saturday, April 10-11, for the GW Invite on the Potomac.
