May 4, 2015 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's tennis team hosted its annual end of season banquet to celebrate the 2014-2015 season and announce team award winners. Head Coach Gordie Ernst presented the top honors.
Freshman Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) was awarded with the Most Valuable Player award. Beatty went 13-5 overall, including a record of 8-1 at No. 4 singles, in his first year with the Hoyas including a five-match win streak with victories over Villanova, George Mason, George Washington and UMBC. Beatty played a part in the Hoyas 4-3 upset victory over DePaul at the 2015 BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championship quarterfinals when he defeated Kyle Johnson in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (11-9). He also posted a mark of 6-7 in doubles play.
John Brosens (Bedford, N.Y./Brunswick School) received the Coaches Award for his dedication and hard work over the past four years. Brosens went 4-8 in doubles play this season, posting his best mark, 3-4, when paired with Beatty in the No. 1 spot.
Georgetown went 9-10 overall and had a record of 1-2 in conference play. The biggest victory came at the BIG EAST Championship quarterfinals when the Hoyas defeated the No. 3-seeded DePaul Blue Demons on April 24.
