WASHINGTON -
The Georgetown women's rowing team competed at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. In perfect racing conditions, the Hoyas put together strong performances against some of the best competition in the country.

"The team had a solid performance this weekend across the squads and crews," Georgetown Head Coach Miranda Paris said. "We saw many of our athletes putting together their best races to date and the cross-conference racing was particularly helpful for seeing what we need to do as we prepare for the Patriot League Championship. We still have a lot of work to do in the next weeks as we prepare for our final races of the season and I know our crews are ready to get back to it."

The Hoyas' lightweight four boat placed third in its respective race, earning a bronze medal with a time of 7:58.372. The Blue & Gray finished in from of Ivy League crew Princeton and Patriot League rival Boston University.

GU's second varsity eight boat also had a strong performance, winning its petite final race. After placing third in their morning heat in 7:05.250, the Hoyas saw a 16-second improvement in the petite final, crossing the finish line in 6:49.500 and defeating crews from Boston University, MIT and Holy Cross.

The varsity eight crew for the Hoyas started its day with a third-place finish in its morning heat with a time of 6:47.076, finishing less than a second behind Patriot League favorite Navy. The time for the Hoyas was also faster than conference foes Boston University, the defending Patriot League champions, MIT and Holy Cross. In the petite final, Georgetown improved its time from the morning, crossing the finish line in 6:41.850 for second place ahead of both Boston University and MIT.

The varsity four clocked a time of 8:30.608 in its morning heat, good for fourth place. The Hoyas improved their time by eight seconds in the petite final, crossing the finish line in 8:22.047, placing seventh.

The lightweight eight also raced on Sunday finishing in fifth with a time of 7:00.886.

The Hoyas will next race in the Patriot League Championships, May 14-15.
