Women's Basketball Announces 2015-16 Non-Conference Schedule

July 13, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad released its 2015-16 non-conference opponents on Monday. The Hoyas will play three home games and seven road contests including two games in the 2015 Vermont Thanksgiving Tournament.

"We are very excited about our non-conference matchups. We look forward to packing McDonough as we host Virginia Tech in our home opener," said second-year Georgetown Head Coach Natasha Adair. "Our non-conference schedule will give us road experience early as we go on a five-game swing. We begin two competitive series with Towson and Delaware, and have games against ACC and SEC opponents. This schedule will more than prepare us for BIG EAST play."

Georgetown will face two NCAA Tournament qualifiers this season in its non-conference schedule.

The season tips off on the road on Nov. 13 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The Hawks were 14-16 a season ago, but advanced to the MEAC championship game before falling to Savannah State. Georgetown hosted UMES to open the season last year in Adair's first game back on the Hilltop and GU won, 88-75. Dominique Vitalis (Bloomfield, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) led the way with 19 points as four Hoyas scored in double figures.

Georgetown is 3-0 all-time against the Hawks.

The Blue & Gray will welcome Virginia Tech to McDonough Arena for the home opener on Nov. 18. The Hokies were 12-20 a season ago and advanced to the ACC quarterfinals. The Hoyas are 2-3 all-time against Virginia Tech and 1-1 at home. The last meeting was in 2003-04 when the Hokies were members of the BIG EAST Conference.

The Hoyas will begin a five-game road swing on Nov. 22 at the University of Memphis. The Tigers were 14-17 last season falling in the quarterfinals of the AAC to the University of South Florida. Memphis came to McDonough Arena last year and won, 63-46. That was the first meeting between the squads giving the Tigers the 1-0 edge in the series.

The Blue & Gray will continue its road trip at the University of Vermont Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 27-28. The four-team tournament will include two games. Opponents include Vermont, Quinnipiac University and St. Francis Brooklyn.

Georgetown will open with Quinnipiac on No. 27. The Bobcats were 31-4 last season winning the MAAC Championship and earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament where the squad fell to Oklahoma, 111-84. This will be the first meeting between the squads.

The Hoyas will then play either Vermont or St. Francis.

The host Catamounts were 5-24 last season and fell to Albany in the America East quarterfinals. Georgetown is 3-0 all-time against Vermont and 1-0 on the road. The Hoyas won the last meeting, 65-53, during the 2011-12 season.

St. Francis was 15-19 a season ago, but made a late run winning the NEC Championship and earning an NCAA Tournament berth. The Terriers fell to eventual national champ, Connecticut. Georgetown is 7-0 all-time against the Terriers with the last meeting in 2003-04, a 71-63 Hoya victory.

Following the tournament, the Blue & Gray will make the short trip to George Mason University on Dec. 2. The Patriots were 13-17 last season falling to Saint Joseph's University in the second round of the A-10 tournament. This will be a familiar foe for one Hoya with the addition of graduate student Jasmine Jackson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) who transferred from Mason to complete her graduate degree.

Georgetown is 16-9 all-time against the Patriots and 7-6 on the road. The last meeting was a 70-62 Hoya loss during the 2004-05 season.

GU will conclude its road swing on Dec. 5 at St. Bonaventure University. The Bonnies were 15-15 a season ago, but fell in the first round of the A-10 Tournament. The teams met a season ago with St. Bonaventure coming away with the 70-64 victory giving the Bonnies the 1-0 series edge.

The Hoyas will return home on Dec. 10 taking on the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Delaware was 15-17 last season and fell in the semifinal of the CAA Tournament. Georgetown is 2-3 all-time against the Blue Hens and 1-1 at home. The last meeting was a 62-56 Hoya victory during the 2012-13 season in Delaware.

The Blue & Gray's last contest before finals will come on Dec. 12 as the squad travels to the University of Alabama. The Crimson Tide posted a 13-19 record last year and fell in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The Hoyas played Alabama on a neutral court at the Hall of Fame Women's Challenge in Lawrence, Kan., falling 72-58. That win gave the Crimson Tide the 1-0 series edge.

Georgetown will conclude non-conference play at home hosting the Towson University Tigers on Dec. 23 in an early game at McDonough Arena. The Tigers, led by former Hoya Niki Reid Geckeler, were 11-21 last season and fell in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament. Georgetown is 4-3 all-time against the Tigers and 2-2 at home. The last meeting was a 67-57 Hoya victory during the 2007-08 season.

The Hoyas finished the 2014-15 season with a mark of 4-27. The squad had no seniors and is returning the entire starting lineup along with two incoming freshmen as well as a pair of transfers for a more veteran group for Adair.
