Baseball Announces 10 Newcomers

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Baseball Head Coach Pete Wilk has announced 10 new additions to the Hoya roster for the upcoming 2016 season. Included in the 10 student-athletes are nine members of the Georgetown Class of 2019 as well as one junior transfer.

"This class has the potential to be the best one we have ever put together here on the Hilltop," Wilk said. "We're extremely excited to see the impact they can bring to this team early in their careers."

Joe Amato

Essex Fells, N.J. | Montclair Kimberley Academy
Amato played for Montclair Kimberley Academy where he served as a team captain as both a junior and senior ... He was a four-time all-conference selection, a three-time All-Essex County selection and a three-time all-state first team member ... Amato helped lead Montclair Kimberley to a SEC Conference championship in 2012 and a NJSIAA Non Public B Runner-Up finish in both 2012 and 2015 ... He was also a three-year member of the varsity football team, earning the team's Iron Man Award in 2012 ... In the classroom, Amato was an honor roll student for four years and was the recipient of the Essex County Scholar-Athlete Award.

Noah Clark

Dallas, Texas | Trinity Christian Academy
Clark was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team at Trinity Christian Academy ... He was selected to the all-district team as a sophomore ... Off of the baseball diamond, Clark was also a member of the varsity football team as a freshman ... In the classroom, he graduated Magna Cum Laude ... His father, Matt, played football for Baylor.

Jack Cushing

Cushing played three years of varsity baseball at Marcus High School, serving as the team captain his senior year ... In 2015, Cushing went 6-2 with a 0.73 ERA on his way to being named the District 6-6A Pitcher of the Year, to the Texas Sports Writer's Association Class 6-A All-State Team and the Dallas Morning News All-Area Team ... He had nine wins as a junior and was named to the District 5-5A All-District First Team ... In his high school's record books, Cushing ranks first in career shutouts and no hitters, second in wins and innings pitched and third in complete games ... He helped Marcus to an 85-26 record during his three seasons, including setting the program record for wins (32) in both 2013 and 2014 ... Cushing was also a two-year member of the varsity football team.

Garza spent his sophomore year at San Jacinto College ... At San Jacinto, Garza played in 38 games, batting .303 with five doubles, 13 RBI and 17 runs scored ... He graduated from San Jacinto with an associate degree in behavioral sciences ... Garza spent his freshman year at Texas Christian University (TCU) where he appeared in four games, batting .200 (1-for-5) in 2014 ... At Ronald Reagan High School, Garza was a three-time all-state selection as well as a three-time academic all-state selection ... He was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude ... Garza's older brother, Mike Garza, played baseball for Georgetown from 2011-12 and holds the GU season record for hits in a season (82) and ranks sixth in career batting average (.349).

George was a two-year member of the Marist School baseball team, serving as a captain as a senior ... He was voted Marist's Most Valuable Pitcher as a senior and helped Marist to a regional championship in both his junior and senior year ... Outside of baseball, George was a four-year member of the swim team and a three-year member of the football team ... He was a swimming All-American and Academic All-American as a senior and holds the Marist record in the 200 freestyle relay ... In the classroom, George was the president of his senior class, a member of the National Honor Society and a four-year member of the Dean's List.

Casey Goldenberg

Goldenberg played both baseball and golf at Suncoast Community High School, helping lead the baseball team to 42 wins in his three season on the varsity squad ... He was a recipient of the Silver Slugger Award in both 2013 and 2014 ... On the mound, Goldenberg totaled two wins and two saves while registering 56 strikeouts ... He was a career .380 batter with two home runs and 35 RBI.

Anthony Morabito

Morabito played two years of varsity baseball at La Salle College High School ... He helped lead La Salle to the 2014 District 12 championship and PIAA AAAA state championship ... Morabito was named La Salle's Most Improved Player in 2015 ... In the classroom, he was a first honors student for all four years.

Dante Ricciardi

Ricciardi played four years of varsity baseball at Worcester Academy, serving as a team captain as both a junior and senior ... Ricciardi was drafted in the 39th round (1,175th overall) by the Seattle Mariners in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft ... He was an all-conference selection as a junior ... He helped lead Worcester Academy to the Central New England Prep School finals in 2012 and 2013 as well as a championship in 2015 ... Off the field, Ricciardi played varsity ice hockey as a freshman and was a three-year honor roll student in the classroom ... His grandfather, John, played for the Boston Red Sox and his father, J.P., was the former general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays and currently works in the front office of the New York Mets.

Sanchez was a two-year member of the varsity baseball team at Minooka Community High School, serving as a team captain as both a junior and senior ... He was named to the all-area and all-conference teams in both 2014 and 2015 as well as the IHSBCA All-State Team in 2015 ... In his two seasons on the varsity team, Minooka went 47-20, winning both a conference and regional championship ... Off the baseball field, Sanchez was a four-year member of the high honor roll.

Ryan Weisenberg

Weisenberg played three years of varsity baseball at San Ramon Valley High School ... He was selected All-East Bay Athletic League as a sophomore and junior ... The Hoyas are coming off of a 2015 season that saw them finish 25-28 overall and 8-10 in BIG EAST play, qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships for the first time since 1986.
