Sept. 30, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's soccer team plays its second BIG EAST Conference game of the season on Thursday, Oct. 1, visiting Villanova. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.

The game will be shown live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN), with Nick Mantegna calling the play-by-play.

The Hoyas opened conference play this past Sunday with a 2-1 double overtime win at Providence, the team's second-straight win and the fifth in the last seven games.

Sophomore Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry) and Emma Newins (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) were selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after their performances in the win over the Friars.

Corboz scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with just over five minutes left in the second overtime period, to lift Georgetown to the 2-1 win. A preseason All-BIG EAST selection, Corboz gave the Hoyas a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when she scored directly off a corner kick. After Providence tied the game late in regulation, Corboz scored on a free kick from about 20 yards out in the 105th minute

A sophomore midfielder, Corboz is tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 points. She is tied for a team high with four goals and is tied for a team high with three assists. Corboz was also selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.

Corboz is tied for the team lead in scoring with junior forward Grace Damaska (Milton, Ga./Blessed Trinity), who also has four goals and three assists for 10 points.

Graduate student Audra Ayotte (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) is third on the team with 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists) and senior forward Crystal Thomas (Elgin, Ill./Wheaton Academy/Notre Dame) is fourth on the team with nine points, coming off of three goals and three assists.

Newins, a senior goalkeeper, played all 105 minutes in the net and made four saves. In nine games this season, she has a 5-4-0 overall record and a 1.60 goals-against average.

The game with Villanova will be the 22nd all-time meeting between the schools, with the Wildcats leading the head-to-head series, 12-6-3. Under Head Coach Dave Nolan, Georgetown has a 5-3-3 record against Villanova. The teams played to a 1-1 double overtime tie last year at Georgetown. The previous two meetings were at Villanova, a 3-1 Hoya win in 2013 and a 1-0 VU win in 2012. Georgetown has a 3-7-1 record in games played at Villanova.
