Senior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) tied his career high with 33 points and the Hoyas connected on nearly 52 percent of their field goals en route to 93-73 win over St. John's at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night. Georgetown, winners of five of its last six games, improved to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the BIG EAST Conference.
Smith-Rivera hit 11-of-16 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point land, to finish with 33 points, while adding six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block to lead three players in doubles figures. Junior forward Reggie Cameron (Hackensack, N.J./Hudson Catholic) scored a career-high 15 points (13 of them in the first half) and had four rebounds, while sophomore guard Tre Campbell (Washington, D.C./St. John's College HS) added 12 points and three assists.
Smith-Rivera, who was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second-straight week and the third time this season on Monday, leads Georgetown in scoring and assists, averaging 16.3 points and 4.4 assists per game. He ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring and sixth in assists. The Hoya co-captain is also fourth in the league in 3-point field goals with 33, 2.2 per game. He is 11th all-time in scoring at Georgetown with 1,663 points and needs 11 points to pass Derrick Jackson ('78) for 10th on the list.
Sophomore forward Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.C./Brewster Academy [N.C.]) is second on the team with 11.2 points and second on the team with 5.0 rebounds, while sophomore guard L.J. Peak (Gaffney, S.C./Gaffney), who has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games and nine times this season, is third on the team in scoring with 9.6 points per game, and is grabbing 2.7 rebounds per game.
Senior center Bradley Hayes (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood) is fourth on the team in scoring, with 8.9 points, and leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game, which ranks ninth in the BIG EAST. He also ranks tied for fifth in the BIG EAST with 1.4 blocks per game and is ninth in the league in field goal percentage, connecting on 53.8 percent of his shots from the floor.
The Hoyas have received healthy contributions from their bench as well, with that group averaging 22.6 points, 14.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Junior forward Reggie Cameron (Hackensack, N.J./Hudson Catholic), who has scored at least seven points 10 times this season, is averaging 6.9 points and 2.5 rebounds.
Georgetown's freshman class ââ'¬" freshman forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]), center Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y./Wings Academy) and forward Kaleb Johnson (South Hill, Va./Carlisle School) ââ'¬" has combined to average 18.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
The game with Villanova will be the 76th meeting all-time between the schools, with Georgetown leading the head-to-head series, 43-32. The teams have split the last eight meetings and the Hoyas have won nine of the last 14 overall.
