Georgetown Visits Former Conference Rival Connecticut on Saturday

  • The Georgetown University men's basketball team departed Washington, D.C. on Friday morning ahead of Winter Storm Jonas as the Hoyas travel to play their final non-league game of the season, on Saturday, Jan. 23, visting former BIG EAST Conference rival Connecticut...
  • The game on Saturday is the second of two against former conference foes for the Hoyas, who beat Syracuse, 79-72, last month.
  • Georgetown, 12-7 overall and 5-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, is coming off its biggest win of the season, an 81-72 victory at No. 5 Xavier ... Sophomore guard Tre Campbell scored a game-high 21 points, while senior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 20 points had seven assists and sophomore guard L.J. Peak registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

HOYAS STORYLINES


  • Senior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera leads Georgetown in scoring with 16.4 points per game and in assists with 4.4 per game ... His 20-point game at Xavier was his fourth game this season with at least 20 points -- DSR has two games with 30-plus points this season -- and the 24th of his career...
  • In the last seven games (since the start of conference play), he is averaging 18.9 points and 5.6 assists while shooting 46.5 percent from the floor (40-of-86) and 47.6 percent from 3-point land (20-of-42).
  • DSR ranks 10th all-time in scoring at GU with 1,698 points in 116 career games, a 14.6 per game average ... He needs 38 points to pass Kevin Braswell (`02) for ninth all-time.
  • Sophomore forward Isaac Copeland is second on the team with 10.8 points and second with 4.9 rebounds, while sophomore guard L.J. Peak, who has scored in double figures in six of the last nine games, is third on the team with 9.7 points per game ... Senior center Bradley Hayes is fourth on the team with 8.5 points, and leads the team with 6.6 rebounds, which ranks 13th in the BIG EAST ... He also ranks tied for sixth in the BIG EAST with 1.3 blocks/game and is 11th in the league in field goal percentage, connecting on 53.6 percent of his shots ... Junior forward Reggie Cameron, who has scored at least seven points 11 times this season, is averaging 6.9 points and 2.7 rebounds.

CAPTAINS LEADING THE WAY


  • While the team's underclassmen have been playing a big part this season, Georgetown's senior co-captains -- Bradley Hayes & D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera -- have done their part...Combined, they are are averaging 24.9 points per game, 9.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists, while shooting 46.9 percent from the floor (165-of-352)...They have accounted for 33.7 percent of the team's points (474 of 1408).

FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES MAKING IMPACT


  • Georgetown's freshman class -- Marcus Derrickson, Jessie Govan and forward Kaleb Johnson -- has combined to average 17.2 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game ... Through 19 games, underclassmen have accounted for 62.1 percent of the team's minutes played (2.392 of 3,850) ...
