Oct. 17, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore women's soccer player Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. She was one of three players to earn weekly honors as graduate student defender Marina Paul (Laguna Beach, Calif./Aliso Viejo) and sophomore goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla Country Day/UCLA) were selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Georgetown, ranked No. 7 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and No. 2 by Soccer America, improved to 12-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in the BIG EAST Conference with a 2-0 win at Marquette on Sunday.
Carolan, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll last week, earns Player of the Week honors for the first time after scoring both goals in Georgetown's 2-0 win over Marquette on Sunday. She scored in the 28th minute and added her second five minutes into the second half.
Carolan is the third Georgetown player to be named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, joining junior midfielder Rachel Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Pingry), who has earned it three times, and senior forward Grace Damaska (Marietta, Ga./Blessed Trinity), who has been selected once.
Paul anchored a back line which surrendered just one goal over two games last week, including a 5-1 win over Villanova at home on Wednesday. GU held Villanova to just six total shots and one corner kick and the goal scored by the Wildcats ended a streak of 748 minutes without yielding a goal by the Hoyas.
Schechtman made seven saves in the shutout at Marquette and was in net for 71 minutes during the team's 5-1 win over Villanova, making three saves while not allowing a goal. She has a 12-1-2 record this season with a 0.63 goals-against average.
The Hoyas are back in action on Thursday, Oct., 21, visiting Seton Hall in a BIG EAST Conference match in South Orange, N.J. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
