Postgame Quotes
Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
We have to grow, we have to get better, we have to learn from our mistakes. Just too many mental errors at the end. You can rattle off a bunch of them. We put them in a position to win the game.
On playing Maryland early in the season ...
I don't know. I know that we have to grow. I told you, a couple of weeks ago, that in a perfect world we wouldn't have this game right here this early in the year. And some of the things we have to grow on showed up.
On Maryland using Melo Trimble's bloody nose as a timeout ...
Yeah, it was but that happens. That's part of competition.
On L.J. Peak and Jessie Govan scoring in the second half and what they were able to take advantage of ...
Right up until the very end - and at the end our offense didn't break down, we just made some mental mistakes -- L.J. did what L.J. does. He is able to get to the basket. Jessie had some good plays. We just have to go back and watch the film. Not that it is rocket science or anything. We know what we did wrong. We can't make those mistakes coming down at the end.
On Melo Trimble being held in check until the end of the game ...
He is an outstanding player. It's not like there was a breakdown, he is going to have success. He is very good and they put him in those situations, they put the ball in his hands. And he did what good players do -- he made plays.
On Maryland's guards handling Georgetown's press ...
No, those guys are good. I think I said it yesterday, our press, it's not like we are going to turn everyone over all the time. I think it did wear on them a little bit. The different things you want to get out of it, it's not always steals, is the effect you want it to have.
After a game like today, what do you tell your team ...
We have to go back and we have to learn. We can't have fouls with no time coming off the clock. You have to know where you are on the court. Our turnovers are things that we can control as opposed to that they forced us in to. And I'm not taking anything away from their defensive effort and they're focus coming down the stretch. It is hard sitting here to find something positive but I think we played well for long stretches and at the end we have a lot of things we can learn from.
On if the game warranted 56 fouls being called ...
Probably, to be honest. There were some plays I couldn't see, but sitting here now, I can't sit here and say that wasn't necessary.
On quick turnaround going into Thursday's game ...
It's going to be rough. We have to do two things in the next 48 hours. We have to dissect and digest this game and we also have to prepare for the next game. We have to learn from it.

On learning and growing as Coach Thompson said ...
I guess just watch some film. I'm pretty sure there are going to be some more late-game situations as the season goes on. I mean, its only the second game of the year. Watch some film with the coaches and see where we messed up.
On what Melo Trimble did defensively in the second half or were the shots just not falling ...
Shots not falling. They contested everything. They blocked some shots. They played hard. It wasn't like I was just taking crazy shots, I think they contested them.
