Hoyas Travel to Minnesota for Friday Matchup

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (1-1) will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday to take on the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-0) at 4 p.m. at Williams Arena. The contest marks GU's second away game of a seven-game road swing. Friday's game will be streamed live on the Big Ten Network Plus.

The Hoyas dropped its first game of the 2016-17 season falling, 73-63, to the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg, Va., on Sunday at Cassell Coliseum. The Hoyas led much of the way, but couldn't slow a Hokie fourth-quarter comeback.

Sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the Hoyas with 19 points. She also had a team-best six assists, four steals and two blocks as well as five rebounds to stuff the stat sheet. Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) posted 14 points and a squad-high eight rebounds, while senior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) rounded out those in double figures with 11 points.

The Hoyas pulled down 35 boards and shot 38.4 percent (28-of-73) from the field, while the Hokies shot 45.5 percent (20-for-44) from the field and managed 32 rebounds. Georgetown committed just 10 turnovers and forced 11 by Virginia Tech.

Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 17.0 ppg and has posted 9.5 rpg. Woodard is second with 16.5 ppg as well as 8.5 rpg, and White rounds out the top three with 13.5 ppg as well as 3.5 rpg and team highs in steals (7) and assists (8).

Georgetown holds a +7.0 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 36.0 percent on the season. The Blue & Gray also holds a +3.0 turnover margin. The Hoyas are currently 0-1 on the road.

The Golden Gophers are 2-0 on the season with a 103-87 victory over Harvard and a 79-69 road win at VCU. Carlie Wagner leads the way with 26.5 ppg, while Kenisha Bell is managing 24.0 ppg. Jessie Edwards has pulled down 9.0 rpg, and Allina Star has posted 8.0 rpg.

Minnesota holds a +3.0 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 48.2 percent on the season. The Golden Gophers also hold a +3.0 turnover margin and are currently 1-0 at home.

Georgetown is 1-1 all-time against Minnesota, but 0-1 on the road. The Blue & Gray won the meeting in 1998 in McDonough Arena, 72-65, but fell in Minneapolis in 1999, 60-57.
