Nov. 21, 2016 MIAMI, Fla. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (1-2) will travel to Miami, Fla., on Tuesday to take on the Florida International University Panthers (0-2) at 7 p.m. at FIU Arena. The contest marks GU's third away game of a seven-game road swing.
The Hoyas fell to the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-0), 68-60, at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday afternoon. Junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and senior guard Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) both managed double-doubles, but the Hoyas' late comeback fell short in the loss.
Sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the Hoyas with 18 points. She also had a team-best four assists and five steals. Adomako posted 17 points and 11 rebounds as well as a team-best four assists, while Woodard rounded out those in double figures with 15 points and a squad-high 12 rebounds. Woodard also managed three blocks, three assists and one steal.
The Hoyas pulled down 49 boards and shot 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the field, while the Gophers shot 39.0 percent (25-for-39) from the field and managed 33 rebounds. The difference came as Georgetown committed 21 turnovers and forced just 15 by Minnesota.
Adomako is leading the team in scoring with 17.0 ppg and has posted 10.0 rpg as well as two double-doubles. Woodard is second with 16.0 ppg as well as 9.7 rpg and two double-doubles to her credit. White rounds out the top three with 15.0 ppg as well as 5.3 rpg and team highs in steals (12) and assists (12).
Georgetown holds a +10.0 rebounding margin over opponents and is shooting 36.4 percent on the season. The Hoyas are currently 0-2 on the road.
A barrage of 3-point field goals from host Florida Gulf Coast University was too much for the Panthers to overcome in an 89-42 loss Tuesday night at Alico Arena in nonconference women's basketball action. The Panthers were led in scoring by freshman Alexis Gordon, who scored 10 points for FIU. Three Panthers collected six rebounds each to pace the team.
Kristian Hudson leads the squad with 13.0 ppg as the lone Panther in double figures.
Georgetown is 2-0 all-time against the Panthers, and 1-0 on the road. The Blue & Gray won the meeting in 2000 in Miami, 55-54, and managed the 76-64 victory the following year at home in McDonough Arena.
