WASHINGTON - After the first day of the Rutgers Quad Meet, the Georgetown men's swimming & diving team trails both Villanova, 69.50-40.50, and Seton Hall, 71-38, while the Hoya women lead Seton Hall, 84-23, but are behind both Villanova, 81-29, and Rutgers, 76-34. Friday's portion of the meet consisted of 12 events at the Scarlet Knights' Aquatics Center.
Men
Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) claimed Georgetown's lone victory of the day, taking first in 3-meter diving with a score of 259.60. Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) and Griffon Edmonds (Norwalk, Conn./New Canaan) placed third and fourth, respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, GU's top two teams finished just over a second apart to finish third and fourth, respectively. The quartet of Will Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), Emmanuel Emovon (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) and Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Cay, N.C.) touched the wall in 1:26.15, while the team of Henry Rogatz (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington), David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Chandler Hinson (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) and Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) finished in 1:27.37.
The Hoyas again finished back-to-back in the 400-yard medley relay, this time placing fourth and fifth, respectively. The squad of Henry Hollinshead (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope), Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington), Vanin and Kohloff took fourth with a time of 3:30.93, just one second out of third. The quartet of Edward Spinelli (Brooklyn, N.Y./Polytech Prep Country Day School), Matt Glockenmeier (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), Chung and Leach touched the wall in 3:34.25 to finish fifth.
Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) placed fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.18.
Women
Georgetown's top quartet in the 200-yard freestyle relay finished second with a time of 1:36.53, edging Rutgers' top team by just .14 seconds. Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./Chatham/New Trier School [N.J.]), Kelleigh Haley (Potomac, Md.), Riley Donlin (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka) and Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) swam for the Hoyas and Page swam a 23.99 in the anchor leg, overtaking the Scarlet Knights to place second.
Conley also finished third in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 24.16.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the quartet of Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School), Laine Morgan (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades School) and Conley placed third in 3:52.65.
The quad meet will wrap up on Saturday with two sessions at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
