WASHINGTON - The Georgetown swimming & diving teams completed racing at the two-day Rutgers Quad Meet on Saturday. The Hoya women defeated Seton Hall, 252-94, but fell to both Villanova, 240-112, and Rutgers, 233-119. The men's squad lost to both Villanova, 206.5-145.5, and Seton Hall, 235-115.
Women
Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke, winning a tight race to the wall. She touched in 57.39, just .53 seconds ahead of a pair of Villanova swimmers. She also placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.74.
Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) and Katie King (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) placed second and fourth, respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke. Fitzpatrick touched the wall in 1:06.24 while King finished in 1:07.60. Fitzpatrick turned around and also finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.91.
Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished in second place in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 17:26.87.
Laine Morgan (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades School) took second in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 56.34 seconds, just .33 seconds out of first.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the quartet of Duncalf, Fitzpatrick, Morgan and Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./Chatham/New Trier School [N.J.]) raced to a time of 3:52.65 to place third.
Men
In a very tight 100-yard freestyle race, Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Cay, N.C.) finished fourth with a time if 47.82 seconds. He was just .26 seconds out of third and .57 seconds out of second, while outstretching his opponent from Villanova by .06 seconds. Kohloff came back to also place fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:44.62.
Edward Spinelli (Brooklyn, N.Y./Polytech Prep Country Day School) and Henry Hollinshead (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) finished third and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 53.34 and 53.49 seconds, respectively. In the 200-yard backstroke, Hollinshead took third with a time of 1:53.77.
Arthur Wang (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) and Matt Glockenmeier (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) finished back-to-back in third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. Wang broke the one-minute barrier, touching the wall in 59.49 seconds while Glockenmeier was right behind him in 1:00.18. The duo finished just .05 seconds apart in the 200-yard breaststroke, again placing third and fourth. Wang clocked in at 2:10.39, while Glockenmeier finished in 2:10.44.
In the 100-yard butterfly, David Chung (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) and Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) also took third and fourth place, respectively. Chung touched in 51.43, less than a second out of first, while Vanin finished with a time of 52.02. Justin Summers (Weston, Conn./Weston) also placed sixth, while finishing fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.18.
Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School), Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey) and Griffon Edmonds (Norwalk, Conn./New Canaan) swept the top three spots in the 3-meter dive. Cooper-Vespa won the event with 280.35 points.
The Hoyas will head back out on the road next Saturday, November 12, for a dual meet at Old Dominion beginning at 2 p.m.
