Box Score

NEWARK, Del. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (6-2) slowed a fourth-quarter comeback to pick up the 54-46 victory at the University of Delaware (5-3) at the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday. The contest marked GU's final game away from home as part of a seven-game road swing, and Georgetown's fifth-consecutive victory.

"We gutted it out. Sometimes it's not pretty, but our team doesn't quit and we gutted it out and people made plays down the stretch," said Georgetown Head Coach Natasha Adair. "Against a very good Delaware team, it's tough to play in this arena. Our kids showed toughness and they gutted it out for the win."

Sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way for the Hoyas with 18 points as the lone Georgetown player in double figures. Senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) pulled in a team-best nine rebounds and added six points, while senior guard Jade Martin (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy) managed eight points and eight rebounds.

The Hoyas pulled down 46 rebounds to Delaware's 43, and shot 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the field, while the Blue Hens shot 27.8 percent (15-for-54) from the field. Georgetown forced 15 turnovers on 11 steals.

Georgetown started slow on offense, but back-to-back 3-pointers from junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and White gave GU the 9-8 lead midway through the first quarter. In a quiet game for both squads, the teams ended the first quarter tied at 11.

Georgetown managed a pair of steals early in the second as White was fouled and hit two free throws, and Martin converted the takeaway to a layup to make it 17-11. A big trey by senior guard Mykia Jones (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook [Wake Forest]) as well as a tip-in from Martin helped the Hoyas as the squad took a 10-point lead, 25-15.

Late in the half, fouls allowed the Blue Hens to get back in the game. But a 3-pointer from White in the final minute made it 28-21 in favor of the Blue & Gray at the break.

The Hoyas started the second half ice cold going 0-for-6 in the opening five minutes and allowing Delaware to pull within three, 28-25. Jones hit a jumper at 5:03 to end the drought as GU fought back.

The referees tightened up the calls on both teams resulting in a number of trips to the line and the opportunity to make up some points. White's slash through the lane in the final seconds made it 38-32 at the end of the third.

White put on a show to open the fourth as a huge block went into the stands. The sophomore later grabbed a loose ball and found a streaking Woodard with the long bounce pass for a layup to make it 43-34 and force a Delaware timeout.

The Blue Hens answered with a 10-2 run to cut Georgetown's lead to three, 49-46, with 1:30 left to play. Woodard ended the momentum with a big 3-pointer to make it 52-46 with a minute remaining in regulation.

A pair of White free throws down the stretch would end the game as the Hoyas hung on for the 54-46 victory.

Georgetown will return home on Thursday, December 8 as the squad hosts George Mason at 7 p.m., at McDonough Arena. Links to live stats and a video stream can be found in the schedule on www.GUHoyas.com.
