Dec. 6, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field standout Kennedy Weisner (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The honor comes after the Hoya women opened the season at the Navy Lid Lifter, hosted by the Naval Academy at the Wesley Brown Field House last Thursday. The meet was highlighted by a trio of event titles, one facility record and 11 times among the top three in five different events.
Weisner made a smooth transition from the cross country season, winning the women's mile as she clocked 4:45.65, a little more than one second off her personal record (PR). The junior led a quintet of Hoyas in the top five spots on the leaderboard in the event.
Her time tops the BIG EAST list and ranks second in the nation currently.
This is the first BIG EAST weekly award of Weisner's career and the first of the season for the Blue & Gray.
The men's track & field team will compete at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind., on Friday, Dec. 9.
