Feb. 23, 2016 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming & diving team begins competition at the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday morning at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
The Hoyas have earned a team silver medal in each of the last two seasons, with 55 members of the program earning All-BIG EAST honors during that time.
On the men's side junior Will Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) is an eight-time All-BIG EAST selection, earning four medals, while junior Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) is also an eight-time All-BIG EAST selection, earning four medals over the last two seasons. Junior diver Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) is a four-time All-BIG EAST selection, earning a pair of gold medals in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions in 2015.
On the women's side senior Erica Fabbri (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) is Georgetown's most decorated swimmer, accumulating 11 All-BIG EAST selections and five medals. Sophomore Bailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) had an impressive debut at the BIG EAST Championships last season, earning All-BIG EAST in five events, while sophomore Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) earned All-BIG EAST honors in three events, including winning a gold medal in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Diving preliminary rounds begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with the final beginning at 6 p.m. The teams will also compete in the 800-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay on Wednesday evening.
