WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team held the University of North Carolina (UNC) scoreless for three innings, but an eight-run fourth inning proved too much for the Hoyas, who dropped an 8-0 decision to the Tar Heels on Sunday afternoon. The loss in Chapel Hill, N.C. puts Georgetown's record at a 2-10 on the young season.
The teams opened the game in a battle for hits. The Hoyas landed the only hit of the first three innings with a double toward first base by senior Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial).
However, the advantage was short lived as UNC put the game out of reach with an eight-run fourth inning. Four singles, a double and a home run were among six hits that gave the Tar Heels the lead and ultimately the game is five innings at 8-0.
Overall, Georgetown registered five hits to UNC's six.
The Hoyas look to bounce back when they cohost the District Invite with George Washington, March 4-6.
