ARLINGTON, Va. - The Georgetown University baseball team snapped its three-game losing streak, defeating crosstown-rival George Washington University, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia. With the win, GU improved to 11-10, while GW fell to 8-13.
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) started on the mound and went a career-high 6.2 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just two runs. He struck out four. Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) pitched 1.1 innings of hitless relief with one strikeout. Tim Davis (Vienna, Va./James Madison HS) struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season.

GW took the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs on four hits to grab a 2-0 lead.
Georgetown answered right back in the top of the third inning, scoring twice to tie the score. Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) and Bernstein reached with one-out walks before DeRenzi lined a double down the left field line to score both runners.
The Hoyas took the lead in the top of the fifth. Bernstein led off with a single, alertly took second on a pitch in the dirt and moved to third on a DeRenzi ground out to first. He was still at third with two outs when Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) hit a hard grounder off the first baseman's glove for an error that allowed Bernstein to score and give GU a 3-2 lead.
Cushing, meanwhile, was on cruise control, only allowing three hits after the third inning. He was helped out by a strike-him-out, throw-him-out double play on a suicide squeeze attempt in the bottom of the third.
Swad came in in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and the tying run on second. He got out of the jam with a harmless fly ball to right field. In the bottom of the eighth, after a one-out error put a runner on first, Swad struck out GW's cleanup hitter and Eric Webber (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's) gunned down the runner trying to steal second.
The Hoyas will make their third trip back to the state of North Carolina for a three-game series at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) this weekend. The two teams are scheduled to play on Thursday (6 p.m.), Friday (2 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.) before the Easter holiday.
