Georgetown Tennis Stays Golden in the Golden State

March 9, 2016

WASHINGTON -

Georgetown University tennis continues to find success in the Golden State as it won a pair of matches on Tuesday. The men's team downed the Wesleyan University men's tennis, 8-1, while the GU women's team defeated Loyola Marymount, 4-3 in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Georgetown men's tennis team swept the doubles point, giving the Hoyas an early advantage. Building off their lead, the men secured five out of six single matches. Captain Peter Beatty (Portland, Ore./Middlesex School) played a perfect match, not allowing Wesleyan's Steven Chen any points for a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot.

On the women's side, the Hoyas rallied to defeat LMU for their third-consecutive victory against California opponents.

With the Lions winning the doubles point, the match came down to singles play.

LMU's Elvira Juravliova was the first to post a victory in singles play, knocking off Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md./Holton Arms School), 6-1, 6-1, but Georgetown won the next two matches on courts two and six to draw back even in the match, 2-2.

Andrea Crespo reclaimed the Lion lead with a win on court three over Sara Swift (Vail, Co./Saint Edward's School), 6-2, 6-4, but Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) topped Julia Norlin, 6-2, 6-3, on court five to force all the attention to court one and a deciding match between Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) and Jessica Perez.

Playing the only three-set match of the day, Saperstein took control of the third, eventually earning the 6-2 victory to capture Georgetown's road win over the Lions.

Both Georgetown teams will return to the court on Thursday, March 10 with a match against UC Irvine at 12:30 p.m. ET
