April 18, 2016 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Basketball Coach Natasha Adair continued to promote her message of female empowerment through sport recently as she was one of more than 80 featured panelists at the 2016 OWN IT Summit held on campus on April 9.
Adair was a panelist at the Run Like A Girl: Women in Sports breakout session. The goal of the session was for attendees to hear from women who are leading the change, using their voices, the media, and their athleticism to critique, inspire, and transform. Adair was joined by ballerina and dance teacher Tisa Huff, President and owner of Wheeler Television, Inc. Patti Wheeler, and Bonnie Morris, Ph.D., an adjunct assistant professor of women's studies.
OWN IT was started by Georgetown graduates Helen Brosnan and Kendall Ciesmier when they were undergrads. The inaugural summit was held in 2014 and brought over 40 speakers and 400 attendees to campus. This success spurred a nationwide movement.
The organization strives to bridge the gap between female leaders of the 21st century and the millennials who admire them, by shaking up the women's leadership arena and producing game-changing, opportunities for college-age women.
The one-day event had main stage speakers as well as breakout sessions. This included women from all walks of life including sport, media, medicine, law, education and government. Even University President John J. DeGioia spoke on women in leadership and in support of the many alums as well as current students involved in the program.
Since coming back to the Hilltop in 2014, Adair has been heavily involved in the campus community and beyond. Her squad performs community service throughout the year, and she has been recognized as a female leader within the community.
