WASHINGTON -
The Georgetown University softball team (9-35, 3-14 BIG EAST) dropped its last regular season road contest on Sunday, falling to the Providence Friars, 10-1, in five innings at Glay Field.
After two scoreless innings, the Hoyas put up the first run of the game in the top of the third inning as junior Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) singled up the middle to drive in sophomore Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington). The run gave the Blue & Gray a 1-0 lead and was Elvina's 18th RBI of the season.
The run would be all that Georgetown could manage as Providence stormed back to put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning and eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Friars' offensive outburst was aided by a double to right field from Julianne Rurka and a Hoya error in the bottom of the fourth for a final score of 10-1.
After six games on the road, the Hoyas return to Guy Mason Field to host Butler in their last regular-season series of the 2016 campaign. The three-game series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 7 and concludes on Sunday, May 8.
