Spinosa Added to Women's Tennis Roster

June 23, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Gordie Ernst announced the addition of Drew Spinosa to the 2016-17 women's tennis roster. Spinosa comes to the Hilltop from the University of San Diego where she was a two-year letterwinner for the Toreros.

"I am so excited to have Drew join the Hoyas," said Ernst. "She is a fantastic competitor and, like so many of our players, she has a great personality and strong commitment to success both on the court and in the classroom. Playing No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles for a strong program such as the University of San Diego speaks volumes of what she will bring to the program."

Spinosa had a 25-26 overall singles record at USD overall and went 8-4 at No. 3 as well as 6-6 at No. 2. In doubles play, she was 23-22 and 14-16 at the No. 1 position.

As a sophomore, she was 4-1 at No. 3 and 3-5 at No.2 singles while going 5-8 at No. 1 doubles. The Claremont, Calif., native was an All-West Coast Conference (WCC) Honorable Mention selection and named Honorable Mention WCC All-Academic.

In her rookie season, Spinosa was named All-WCC Honorable Mention in singles, as well as Honorable Mention All-WCC in doubles with Dana Oppinger. She was also selected to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Spinosa was 4-3 at No. 3 singles and 3-1 at No. 2. In doubles play, she went 9-8 at the No. 1 position.

In high school, Spinosa was ranked among the top 10 in Southern California and No. 65 in the nation. In her final year of high school, she only played competitive junior tournaments and took home the championship title at the Anaheim Open and Ramada Open.

The Hoyas went 15-5 last season and will return a pair of All-BIG EAST performers. Georgetown advanced to the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship before falling to DePaul.
